concerned std??

Is it possible for a gyn, to misdiagnosis herpes and Vaginitis? The symptoms, are close, except no blisters especially since Vaginitis requires a physical exam?? Wouldn't the blisters be noticed? I know discharge is a definite for vaginitis, as well as painful urination, and itchy outside? So I am sorta confused here.
