I have receding gums, but no pain

Hello, I was just wondering if my gums are in danger. Everybody that works with my teeth [dentist, orthodontist] says that I got receding gums and I believe them. Most of my teeth have a thin, see-through skin on the part that is connected to the gum. They are also kind of long.
