Blood (IGRAs) vs. PPD timing

If one has been exposed to another individual with TB, is there an advantage to having a blood test vs. a PPD test? I've been told that the blood test can verify TB right away, while the PPD can take up to 8 weeks to show in the body. Is this accurate?
