burning ear and painful jaw

My left ear has an intermittent burning sensation. This has been happening for about a month now. It feels like I have some kind of chemical on my outter ear around the canal. The sensation usually only lasts a couple minutes then goes away for anywhere between ten minutes to several hours. I have not been around any type of chemicals that would cause this.
